Germany trio cut from Euro 2008 squad

Germany head coach Joachim Loew has dropped striker Patrick Helmes plus midfielders Jermaine Jones and teenager Marko Marin from his Euro 2008 squad, it was announced on Wednesday.

Loew named an extended squad on May 16 for a training camp in Mallorca, but had to drop three players before submitting his final 23-man squad for the tournament, co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland, which begins on June 7.

The decision made by our coaching team was a very difficult one, said Loew.

It was a millimetre decision, because everyne of the three players earned their place in the Euro 2008 squad.

The decision was especially hard as all three did well in the training camp and will have a role to play in the national team after the tournament.

All three …

Le Havre 1-4 Paris-Saint-Germain: Les Parisiens start title defence emphatic late win

French champions Paris Saint-Germain won 4-1 at Le Havre on Friday, capitalising on a late collapse by the hosts to get their Ligue 1 season off to an excellent start.

PSG opened the scoring after three minutes when Goncalo Ramos found Lee Kang-in inside the box and he sent a left-foot shot into the net.

The visitors joy was short-lived, however, as Ramos was hurt in a challenge and the Portuguese international had to be replaced by Randal Kolo Muani, who rattled the crossbar shortly after entering the fray.

The hosts, who had a goal chalked off in the first half for offside, shocked PSG after the break as Gautier Lloris in the 48th minute, before Josue Casimir s goal was disallowed following a VAR decision for handball in the build-up.

Lee was then inch…

Euro 2008 day fourteen, quarter-final – Turkey 1-1 Croatia aet – Turkey win 3-1 on penalties

After the great display of football provided by Germany and, to a lesser extent Portugal, on the previous evening I was looking forward to the game between the two underdogs Turkey and Croatia.

What the two teams actually served up was a few minutes of excitement and not much else other than whole hearted effort.

The first half passed with only one incident of note which summed up the general quality of the game. Modric cleverly created a gilt-edged chance for Olic who couldn t miss from six yards out. Unfortunately for him and Croatia he did miss. He managed to hit the bar. Luckily for Croatia the ball fell straight to Kranjkar who only had to nod the rebound into the empty net from eight yards. You ve guessed it, he missed as well.

Croatia pushed forward in th…

“This has nothing to do with 2018” – Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Real Madrid challenge (Video)

Speaking to the press ahead of his team s clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said his team are motivated by the prospect of getting into the next round by beating Real Madrid, and not by the controversies which took place in the 2018 final when these two teams last met.

On this day in 2012: Andre Villas-Boas sacked by Chelsea

On this day in 2012, Andre Villas-Boas left Chelsea as former midfielder Roberto Di Matteo was appointed interim manager until the end of the season.

Villas-Boas, 34, lost the job he had held for just eight months less than 24 hours after a 1-0 defeat at West Brom which left the Blues sitting in fifth place in the Premier League table and having won just five of their previous 15 games in all competitions.

The Portuguese had been recruited at great expense – around £13.3million – as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement by then Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in June 2011 and handed the task of overhauling an ageing squad after winning a remarkable quadruple with Porto.

However, he quickly found himself under pressure and reports of dressing room unrest coupled wit…

Best Spot Bets for NFL Week 10: Dallas Might Get Caught Looking Ahead To Mahomes, Chiefs

With the calendar now well into November and teams peeking ahead to the postseason race, scanning the schedule should be part of your weekly NFL betting routine.

Push pause on your advanced modeling and deep-dive analytics, and try to put yourself in the cleats of teams as they navigate the Week 10 grind. There you can find valuable situational angles – AKA spot bets – that can be that final edge you need to best the bookies.

Here are my top NFL spot bets for Week 10: letdown, lookahead and schedule.

Patrick Mahomes TNF Spotlight: Player Props for Thursday Night Football Week 2

In case you forgot… Patrick Mahomes is very, very good.

It’s understandable that you’d forget, with all the hoopla around Josh Allen, Russell Wilson, or even Justin Herbert. Still, it’s somewhat unforgivable, and Patty gave us a not-so-subtle reminder of how great he is by dropping 360 yards and five TDs on the Cardinals last Sunday.

So here we are: We could not live with our failure (in ignoring the KC QB), and where did that bring us?

Back to looking at Patrick Mahomes props on a Thursday night.

His Kansas City Chiefs have a tougher defensive test in Week 2 against the Chargers, but I’m confident their new offensive look will again be successful — and I’ve got three free NFL picks to cash in on Mahomes…

NFL Best Bets and Player Props for Week 1: Ridley Rips Apart Sad Colts Secondary

The NFL is back! The NFL is back! The NFL is back!

Yesterday I gave you three NFL player props I really liked, though considering two of them were fades, I started to wonder if I wanted to be associated with having such a negative tone.

I’m a pretty positive person, so after sifting through the NFL odds again, I’m taking a more positive outlook with my free NFL picks — and taking Overs for my today’s three bets!

“Backing veteran pass-catchers” is the main theme, as I’m betting on a reliable face (err, set of hands) for Matthew Stafford, as well as a Buccaneer that people seem a little too down on, plus I’m also looking at a Jaguar to outrun a bunch of Colts downfield.

After yesterday’s amuse…

Week 11 NFL Teaser: Bucking the Bucs for 49ers Visit

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s teaser time, and I’ve got a hole to dig out of!

The Buffalo Bills were a comedy of errors on Monday Night and invented a new way to defy the NFL odds when they turned it over four times against the Broncos, coughing up the game despite winning the yards per play battle 7.1 to 4.2. As a result, Week 10’s teaser was a big fat L. The loss was a true stinger, but that’s betting and I’m sure I’ll be on the right side of a few games like this by season’s end.

So, we’re at 4-6 on the season and there won’t be a dramatic overhaul to my approach, because I trust my process. The Week 11 odds board isn’t exactly making things easy on us, as there aren’t many of the classic &l…
